One of the things we love about latin dancing is how well it travels. Dance is a hobby and universal language that’s present throughout most countries now, and dancers tend to be extroverted and welcoming of any new faces that pass through their city and scene.
We started this blog to share our stories of travel as dancers, having danced our way through countless cities in the last 15 years. At the same time, it’d be remiss of us to overlook news from close to home: our own town of Perth is set for one of the biggest summer of latin dance events/festivals it has ever seen! Perth has been on the Australasia map for some time for our great Kizomba festival, but early 2024 will see a range international and national artists and DJs visit the WA beaches.
Here’s a few of the biggest Perth dance events to look out for this year:
Mar 1st - Mar 3rd
The ‘new kid on the block’ in Perth, a brand new Salsa/Bachata festival launched in 2023 and back for its second year. It features a great line-up of artists including new international couples like Magda & Valeria never before seen in Perth, and Salsa world champions Almendra and Richie. This year’s festival happens at the Pan Pacific Hotel, along with a special beach dancing day at City Beach on Sunday!
Mar 7th - Mar 11th
The big festival that made Perth ‘kizomba crazy’ returns for its 9th year in 2024, with a huge line-up of traditional Kizomba/Semba and Urban Kiz artists from across Europe and Australia. Held this year at the Parmelia Hilton, it happens over 5 nights including the now-famous Rottnest Island party on Monday.
So what are you waiting for? Book a trip to the west coast now, and reach out for other tips on dance or other attractions while you’re here.
